THE HARWOOD MUSEUM OF ART DIRECTOR ELECTED TO NATIONAL BOARD 

Taos, N.M.
-The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries has elected Harwood Museum of Art Director Susan Longhenry to the board as Mountain-Plains Regional representative.  There are 17 national board members. The Harwood Museum of Art is part of the University of New Mexico.

The Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG) is the leading organization for academic museums, galleries, and collections in the United States. The association addresses topics that are relevant and unique to college and university museums, galleries and collections of all disciplines including art, history, natural history, and science. AAMG also addresses governance, ethics, education and exhibitions, management, strategic planning, support, collections, and professional program issues.

The Mountain Plains Museum Association is one of six regional associations in the United States that works in conjunction with the American Association of Museums. The six associations form the Council of Regions and meet twice yearly to advise the American Association of Museums on issues relating to museums in the particular regions.  Longhenry will represent the 10 states in the Mountain Plains Museum Association to Association of Academic Museums and Galleries. She will also represent Association of Academic Museums and Galleries to the Mountain Plains Museum Association.  

During her two-year tenure as Director, The Harwood Museum of Art has enjoyed a 27% increase in attendance. Museum membership at the Harwood has also increased 30% in that same time period.

"I am thrilled to welcome Susan Longhenry to the Association of Academic Museums and Galleries board as our Mountain Plains regional representative," says Jill Hartz, AAMG Board President. "Her experience in the profession and relationships with museum professionals throughout the region will be immensely useful to those in the Mountain Plains states and for the academic museum world in general."

To hear that her leadership is being recognized on a regional and national level is tremendous. The Harwood Museum of Art, New Mexico and now AAMG is very fortunate to have Susan at the helm." 

The Harwood Museum of Art Brings Taos arts to the world and world arts to Taos.
The Harwood Museum of Art is the place to experience Taos with works from the 18th century to the present reflecting the multicultural heritages and influences of the Taos artistic community.  Permanent exhibitions include Hispanic, Taos Society of Artists, Taos Moderns and Contemporary. Rotating exhibitions are captivating with cutting-edge scholarship and work. The museum offers weekly screenings of films in the new state-of-the-art 130 seat Arthur Bell Auditorium, equipped with a surround sound audio system and high-definition video projection.

Organized in 1980 as the Association of College and University Museums and Galleries (ACUMG), the organization was renamed in 2010 to Association of Academic Museums and Galleries (AAMG).  The AAMG is an Affiliate Professional Organization of the American Association of Museums (AAM) and an affiliate of the College Art Association (CAA) and the Small Museum Association (SMA).
