Chama, N.M. & Antonito, Colo.---Families planning summer vacation this year will be happy to learn about Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad's new Kids Ride Free program.  Children between the ages of 2 and 12 will ride free with the purchase of one full price adult ticket.

Families will have a wonderful time experiencing the authentic West on the Cumbres & Toltec as they pass through New Mexico and Colorado's most scenic areas. The train chugs 10,015 feet up the Cumbres Pass, winds through tunnels and over trestles, and snakes along the 800 feet deep Toltec Gorge, past waterfalls, mountain forests, and alpine meadows. A ride on the Cumbres & Toltec is now a top summer vacation pick with the new Kids Ride Free promotion.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is America's highest and longest narrow gauge railroad.  While powered by authentic steam locomotives, the railroad runs on the passion and tireless efforts of dedicated employees who make the mountain railroading experience like no other.

Riders will share quality time on the train as they traverse 64 miles, crossing back and forth between the two states 11 times, with unparalleled scenery from either the Antonito or the Chama depot.  All trains stop at the historic Cumbres Station for a homemade lunch including desserts made fresh daily.  Riding the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is truly a family trip not to be missed.  As returning passengers frequently tell the staff, a trip on the Cumbres & Toltec creates memories that will last a lifetime.

KIDS RIDE FREE: Available May 25 through Sept. 14 on daily excursion trips #1 through #6.  Monday through Saturday in coach seating.  Limited seats available.  May not be combined with any other discount, offer, or promotion.  Not valid on Sunday, Evenings or Cinder Bear Trains.  Lunch cost is $10.

ALL ABOARD:  CINDER BEAR EXPRESS
Other great family friends news from the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the Cinder Bear Express, which runs every Thursday, beginning July 11 and through Aug. 15.

Cinder Bear greets all passengers on this special kid-friendly excursion and takes them on a fun four-hour adventure.  Young rail fans will play games, sing songs and listen to the beloved Cinder Bear as he tells stories.  And as the steam locomotive climbs up the Cumbres Pass, children will encourage the train to take the steep climb as they call "I think I can, I think I can."

All riders will receive a complimentary souvenir to take home.  A picnic lunch will be served at the historic Cumbres Station.  With excursions like the Cinder Bear Express, the Cumbres & Toltec provides a well-rounded and fun experience for even the youngest visitors.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is jointly owned and operated by New Mexico and Colorado.  The railroad was recently designated as a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service.  It is the highest and longest steam powered, authentic, narrow gauge railroad in the United States.  The passenger railroad travels over its historic road grade from Chama, N.M. and Antonito, Colo.
