Chama, N.M. & Antonito, Colo.--- The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad launches its 2013 season with exciting new experiences for rail fans including the Sunset Ride, Sunday Express and the American Society of Civil Engineers Day. This historic railroad is also offering a special Kids Ride Free program for added family affordability.  The 2013 Cumbres & Toltec season starts May 25 and runs through October 20, 2013.

The Cumbres Sunset Train runs Saturdays in the cool summer evenings and includes dinner and live entertainment at the newly built Cumbres Pavilion on top of the Cumbres Pass. Views of the setting sun combined with music makes this train one of the most relaxing and romantic.  The new Sunday Express runs from Chama, May 26 through September 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Sunday Express riders will enjoy a delicious picnic in the fresh mountain air prepared by Toltec Gorge Catering.

For the very first time, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad will host a special historic tour of the railroad on American Society of Civil Engineers' Day, Saturday, August 24. Rail enthusiasts will learn about the building of the railroad with two interesting lectures at trestle stops.  Riders will leave with a greater appreciation for what it took to build the railroad in the Rocky Mountains. 

Also new this year is the Kids Ride Free program.  Children between the ages of 2 and 12 ride free with the purchase of one full price adult ticket. The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad climbs up to Cumbres Pass at an elevation of 10,015 feet and takes its passengers through some of the most scenic parts of the Rocky Mountains. The train traverses 64 miles, crossing back and forth between New Mexico and Colorado 11 times. All trains stop at the historic Osier Station for a homemade lunch including freshly made desserts.

Cumbres & Toltec riders can choose from the Victorian-era elegance of the luxurious Parlor Cars or the deluxe Tourist and Coach Cars. The Parlor Car, for riders ages 21 and up, offers a level of luxury, service, and comfort with attentive and friendly staff. Continental breakfast, snacks and soft drinks are served throughout the day on the Parlor Car and riders will receive a complimentary gift bag.  Deluxe Tourist Service offers café seating and other upscale amenities. The Gondola Car is open to all riders for open viewing of the mountains and abundant wildlife. There are full-service bars in the Parlor, Tourist and Concession Cars.

The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is jointly owned and operated by New Mexico and Colorado.  The National Park Service recently designated the railroad as a National Historic Landmark.  It is the highest and longest steam-powered, authentic, narrow-gauge railroad in the U.S. The passenger railroad travels over its historic route between Chama, N.M. and Antonito, Colo.
