Santa Fe, New Mexico—It could have been the distinctive light, peaceful and idyllic landscape or the dramatic skies and breathtaking mountains that inspired Carrie Haag and Cat Scheibner to move from Colorado Springs to Santa Fe. But there was more than the natural beauty, art and culture that compelled them to pack up and move to New Mexico after 14 years in Colorado.

“We knew that Santa Fe draws many people who are working on their spiritual and emotional health and growth,” says Carrie Haag, LISW, Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, “so this seemed like a perfect place for us to open the Santa Fe Center for Relationships.

Haag and Scheibner formed the Santa Fe Center for Relationships just 5 months ago to support people in developing healthy, vibrant and lasting relationships. They co-present weekend workshops for couples called Getting the Love You Want. Haag and Scheibner have been in a relationship for 20 years and credit this work in keeping their own relationship strong and exciting.

Haag is a Licensed Independent Social Worker in New Mexico, a Certified Imago Relationship Therapist, an Advanced Imago Clinician and a Certified Imago Workshop Presenter. She holds a B.A. from Purdue University, an M.A. and Ed.S. from Eastern Kentucky University and an M.S.W. from Smith College School for Social Work. She was born and raised in the Midwest and has been a teacher and administrator. She was Executive Director of U.S. Field Hockey before becoming a therapist.

Scheibner holds a B.A. from Mount Holyoke College, an M.S. from Smith College and a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law. Born and raised in New England, she has been a teacher, lawyer, fundraiser and foundation program officer. She was a grant making panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts, as well as the Director of Development at Northeastern University School of Law.

“Although I’ve enjoyed a very exciting and rich career,” says Scheibner, “the work I’m doing now is by far the most rewarding. To see couples leave our workshops with a renewed sense of connection and passion is very gratifying.”

The Santa Fe Center for Relationships teaches couples skills to function at an optimum level in their relationship. Studies have shown that loving, nurturing, and harmonious relationships are associated with longer life expectancy, faster recovery from illness and a decreased risk of depression. The “Getting the Love You Want” workshops, which Scheibner and Haag co-present in Santa Fe, can not only help keep couples healthy, but can transform a relationship.

“Whether you are in a satisfying relationship you want to enrich, or stuck in a relationship of long-standing conflict,” says Haag, “all couples can benefit from better understanding their relationship with their partner and how best to communicate.”
