GREAT NATIVE ART FINDS AT THE NATIVE TREASURES COLLECTORS’ SALE
Many top Native art collectors must make room in their homes for newly purchased art from Indian Market last weekend. Items from their collections, and other top collectors, will be sold at the second annual Native Treasures Collectors' Sale, Sunday, Sept.18, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sale on Museum Hill is free and open to the public and proceeds will go to the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture to fund exhibits and education programs. Last year, the Collectors' Sale raised over $25,000 for the museum.
"We're very excited about continuing this event," says Bob Reddington, event Co-Chair. "Based on the buzz from last year's show, we've already received pieces from collectors around the country who are interested in selling some of their work. The pieces range from historic rugs and baskets to the most contemporary potters and jewelers. It should be a great opportunity for people to snatch up some wonderful finds."
"In this economic climate, we know buyers will appreciate the high quality art available for very good prices at the Native Treasures Collectors' Sale," says Ardith Eicher, Co-Founder of Native Treasures. "We thank all of our collectors who generously donate their prized items, in part, or in full, to benefit the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture."
Native art aficionados can be among the first shoppers at a new event-the VIP Preview Cocktail Party, Saturday, September 17, 5 to 7 p.m. Guests will have the chance to make purchases before the main public event on Sunday. Scrumptious appetizers and a cash bar will round out the special evening.
"This is a great extension of the Native Treasures show in that it continues to foster an interest in Native American art and also benefits the museum, which is such a cultural resource for our community," says Shelby Tisdale, Director of the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture.
Based on the success of last year's show and the number of pieces that collectors have put into the sale this year, the show is more than doubling in space in and around the Laboratory of Anthropology's Meem Auditorium on Museum Hill. The Lab is between the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture and the Museum of International Folk Art.
