HEALTHIER HOMES FOR CHILDREN WITH AUTISM

Clearwater, Fla.- The International Institute for Bau-Biologie® & Ecology (IBE) is working with several non-profit organizations, including THRiiiVE.com, LIA (Lyme Induced Autism) and Autism One, on researching and disseminating information on environmental culprits for Autism and Asperger Syndrome.

One in 150 children is now diagnosed with Autism. Autism is a brain development disorder characterized by impaired social interaction and communication. It has been documented that environmental toxins play a critical role in the onset of these disorders and that these toxins can impede treatment as well.

A U.S. government report, published in January 2003, stated that Autism cases have increased ten-fold in a ten year period. There is also evidence showing that the number is still increasing and that cases appear in clusters, both of which lend weight to the theory that these disorders involve a significant environmental factor.

IBE has made a commitment to bring together issues from the biological (healthy homes) and ecological (green homes) realms in order to provide healthier environments for those diagnosed with Autism. The principles of Bau-Biologie (or Building Biology) & Ecology are based on the premise that what is healthy for the occupants (biologically compatible) will also be good for the environment (ecologically sustainable).

IBE's project, "Healthier Homes for those with Autism," will be launched at the West Coast Green Conference in San Francisco, September 30, 2009. Water, air, chemicals and electromagnetic all have toxins that can impact health.  The information IBE will release in September is derived from the research and experience of doctors who treat patients with Autism and the environmentalists who measure exposure to toxins.

"Bau-Biologie's main goal is to empower people in their own environments," says Vicki Warren, IBE Executive Director.  "We have developed a number of seminars and videos providing information about reducing what we call the ‘Total Body Burden.'  We are proud to be working with the Autistic community on empowering families with the knowledge and encouragement to recognize and reduce the environmental toxins within their homes."

The focus of "Healthier Homes for those with Autism" is to engage builders, architects, interior designers, craftsmen, vendors, and all concerned citizens in making a difference in the built environment for families living with Autism.

The Bau-Biologie course and seminar material, developed and taught by experts in the field, is based on scientific research that supports the "precautionary principle."  That is, if there is enough scientific evidence to indicate a potential problem, then people are encouraged to avoid it.  The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified unhealthy indoor environments as one of the top five health risks facing Americans today.

Bau-Biologie
Bau-Biologie ® is the holistic study of the man-made environment, human health and ecology. The intrinsic aspect of IBE is to hold nature as the golden principle. Bau-Biologie®, or Building Biology, is a subject that brings together fields of study that are otherwise only taught in isolation. IBE was started in North America in 1987, with a mission to raise awareness that buildings can abide by the laws of nature. The principles of Bau-Biologie & Ecology are based on the premise that what is healthy for the occupants will also be good for the environment.  These principles, which emerged in Germany due to problems with post-war housing construction, are very relevant today.
