TRUMPET MASTER AT THE HARWOOD VALENTINE’S DAY WEEKEND
The Harwood Museum of Art will host trumpet-master Bobby Shew, Saturday, Feb 16, 7 p.m. in the Arthur Bell Auditorium. The concert is presented in collaboration with event producers Victoria Rogers and Cal Haines.
Shew is creating a concert of ballads and a few swinging love songs for the Valentine’s weekend concert at the Harwood Museum of Art. Concert-goers will enjoy songs of love found, lost or realized and lyrics expressed as notes from the trumpet maestro. His quartet includes pianist Bob Fox, California virtuoso bassist Michael Glynn and drummer Cal Haines.
“We’re honored to be bringing Bobby Shew to Taos — one of the great, great jazz trumpet players of our time,” says Susan Longhenry, director of the Harwood Museum of Art. “It’ll be a very special night at the Harwood and we anticipate a full house.”
“The concert at the Harwood will be a compelling experience of jazz, musicianship, artistry, melody and lyrical feeling,” says Victoria Rogers. “The tempos and musical textures will be diverse. I know there won’t be any sleepers, but maybe some dreamers, and other arrangements that lift the spirit. One of the highlights will definitely be the romantic favorite, ‘The Shadow of Your Smile’.”
Shew recently performed with the Czech National Symphony Orchestra in Prague. He is an award-winning recording artist under his own name. Amidst Shew’s lengthy credits, he has played as a member of the Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman and Buddy Rich big bands.
